Observations from Japan

Ted has been in Japan on a short term assignment as a consultant. Here is one of his observations:

After a month on the job I have experienced local trains, rapid trains and bullet trains. If Mussolini (Italian dictator WWII) made the trains run on time the Japanese run them to the second. Beside that was purely propaganda Italian trains never ran on time. These guys have it down to split second timing. There are lines painted on the concrete where you are supposed to line up to get on the train and when it stops, there is the door right in front of you. You don't run to the right or left, it's right there in front of that line. Another observation is that they come out of the train station like starlings in the night sky. except that starlings don't fly into each other pushing and bumping wearing ear phones and staring into cell phones.

The reason why I bring that up is because I get most of my news over here from the BBC, The Herald Tribune (NY time overseas) and Japan times. I was reading an interesting article the other morning that had gotten me to think a little. California, the Obama Administration and China are in talks to supply super fast trains from San Francisco to LA. And eventually all the way down to San Diego. And how do you ask is AAARnold going to pay for this? China will finance it. They will supply the know how, the technicians,the engineers, the designers & the cash. Full disclosure I own stock in Union Pacific. Do you know who built Union Pacific. The chinese were imported to do the dirty work. They hung on the sides of cliffs with a bag of dynamite and after they set the charges they hoped that their Irish allies would pull them up in time before the explosives sent them back to the good earth. If the know how, the technicians, the engineers etc. are chinese, who will hang over the side of the cliff this time around? If you said good old Billie Bob, go to the head of the class.

The reason for my Tirade. It has been widely reported over here (Japanese Astronaut in space station) is that program is about to come to an end.

The country that fought WWII,rebuilt Europe & Asia kept the communist at bay (you remember communist, that's what the chinese are) put a man on the moon and returned to earth safely, put rover on mars and countless other accomplishments has to go to China to get financing and technical know how on how to build a railroad. A freaking Chu Chu road.!!!

One other thing reported over here by the Japanese Times is how well China has survived the recession. No wonder, they still have factories that make things. Just ask Wall Mart. They have so much cash they don't have room to store it! So might as well build railroads in america. I can remember when Bill Clinton told us we are the information society. We don't need factories. They pollute the environment. Our people need to get with the information age. How is that information working for you, Detroit?

I think we should build our own bullet trains. We can get the know how the same way the Chinese got it. They stole it from Japan. After all It was our captured German scientist against Russia's captured German scientist that defined the space race.

PS: The most popular method of suicide in Japan is to jump in front of a train. Do you think a bunch of rednecks, standing in line waiting for a train, aren't going to take the opportunity to throw a few liberals under the train?
